Jane Parsons-Fein, LCSW, BCD, DAHB

Jane Parsons-Fein, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work (BCD), and Diplomate of the American Hypnosis Board (DAHB), is a graduate of Smith College and the Columbia School of Social Work. She is president of The Parsons-Fein Training Institute for Psychotherapy and Hypnosis (PFTI) in New York City, which integrates the hypnotic approaches of Milton H. Erickson, MD, Virginia Satir, Moshe Feldenkrais and noted hypnotic language expert Kay Thompson, DDS.

Jane has trained many hundreds of successful professionals in her more than thirty-five years' experience and in her own training she studied and/or worked with all four of these great innovators. (She now teaches their techniques in her popular "Four Masters" course - see "Trainings.") In "About PFTI" you can learn Jane's teaching goals for PFTI and see her list of professional offices and affiliations.

Before discovering the healing uses of hypnosis, Jane worked in the Department of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City for twelve years. When she read about Milton Erickson's work, it gave a new direction to her life and practice. In 1981 she co-founded an organization focused on the work of Dr. Erickson where she was president (1989-91) and director of training and editor of its newsletter until 1997, when she founded PFTI.

An accomplished speaker, Jane has given hundreds of presentations to a broad range of groups and conference audiences in the US and abroad, including lecturing in Germany, Italy, Poland and Nepal and directing an ongoing series of training programs in Stockholm. She also co-directed a 112-hour training with Kay Thompson in Boston. Recent and forthcoming engagements include: NASW-NYC Addictions Committee (New York), American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (Chicago), Feldenkrais Guild of New York, International Human Resources Learning Network (Denver) and Association of Employee Assistance Programs (New York).

Jane's special interest is therapeutic language, on which she is preparing a new book. Her first book, Loving in the Here and Now: Recreate Your Relationship and Bring Love Back into Your Life, for therapists and couples, was published by Penguin Tarcher in 2004. An illustrated version in handbook format is also in preparation. For more about the book and its four CDs of exercises, to read Jane's articles or hear her interviewed, please go to "Writings/Broadcasts."

Jane has three sons and four grandchildren and lives in New York City, where she also maintains a private practice, described at www.nyclinicalhypnotherapist.com.

Loving in the Here and Now is Jane Parsons-Fein's most recent book. A handbook for therapists and couples alike, it was written to enable couples to learn on their own how to put much of the work done at PFTI into practical action, to improve their communication and their relationships. A set of four CD's with all the book's exercises is also available to make it even easier to use.

The book ($20 plus $2 shipping) and the CD's ($15 each - $50 for the whole set plus $1 shipping) are available from the Parsons-Fein Training Institute, 275 Central Park West, 4B, New York, NY 10024.

I believe in man's unconscious, the deep spring from which comes his power to communicate and love. For me, all art is a combination of these powers; art is nothing to me if it does not make contact between the creator and ther perceiver on an unconscious level. Let us say that love is the way we have of communication, personally in the deepest way. What art can do is to extend this communication, magnify it, and carry it to vastly greater numbers of people. In this it needs a warm core, a hidden element... I believe in art for the warmth and love it carries within it.
